Do I have a yeast infection?

November 29, 2010 by

A couple of days ago, I went to the bathroom and noticed a lot of this thick, pale, cottage-cheese-like discharge, which doesn’t smell. Soon after, this crazy itching began in my vagina. I looked up the symptoms on the Internet and was surprised to learn that it seemed to be a yeast infection. I’ve never had a yeast infection before. I wanted to go to the doctor to make sure, but they don’t have any appointment openings for at least two weeks.

Go Here To Learn More About Candidiasis/Yeast Infection

Understandably, I don’t want to wait that long to get this taken care of. The different articles on the internet (I’ve read at least six) all say to go to the doctor if this is the first infection, since it could be something else, like an STD. I really don’t think it’s anything else – the symptoms match a yeast infection, but I’m not 100% sure. Am I in the middle of a yeast infection? Are there natural ways to get rid of it? If not, what’s the best over-the-counter treatment? How long is this going to last?

Hello,
Not only have I had these but a bladder infection and cysts on my ovary’s. All very painful.
I have found the over the counter stuff to be a waste of money, however it has been some time since my last one, maybe they are better now?

The best thing to do is go to a doctor, doesn’t have to be your doctor (though it would be nice for it to be).
After you get this one cleared up (if it is just a yeast infection) consider eating some yogurts, cranberry juice (the real stuff is the best and what I drink, though there is that cocktail stuff).
Also tight clothing, jeans, underwear, swim suites also contribute to infections. So keep this in mind.
Hope this helps and wish you well!!

I can’t take Birth Control pills due to chronic yeast infections?

I’ve been on 3 different kinds of BCP (Alesse, Tri Cyclen Lo, and Yaz) and after a few months, all have given me yeast infections every single month. There’s no way in hell I’m putting up with this.

However, I don’t like the sounds of any other methods. Except condoms but I don’t trust condoms, and I don’t even like how they feel especially when I’m with the same guy all the time.

Definitely no to the injection. Does anyone else recommend any other types of birth control? Cause I do need some, but I’m not willing to put up with yeast infections every single month.

It sounds like the hormones might be causing some issues for you. Have you considered having an IUD inserted? I can’t take hormonal birth control for medical reasons, so I opted for a non-hormonal copper flexi-T IUD, there’s also the paraguard IUD. It’s a great alternative to hormonal birth control, and it’s even more effective and more convenient. You don’t have to remember a pill everyday or something each time you want to have sex. And once it’s inserted, it can be good for up to 10 years. And if you ever want a kid, it can be removed at any time and fertility returns as soon as it’s removed.

Lol, I sound like an advertising agent, but I really do advocate non-hormonal IUDs as an alternative birth control solution :)

How to Prevent Yeast Infections

A yeast infection is caused by an overgrowth of a fungus normally found in the body. The organism Candida albicans is usually responsible for most infections. It can be caused by a variety of reasons including tight clothing, feminine products, pregnancy, diabetes, and the use of certain medications. Here are some strategies that can help you prevent yeast infections.

Go Here To Learn More About Candidiasis/Yeast Infection

1.Dry vaginal area throughly after showering or swimming. A moist environment encourages the growth of yeast.

2.Avoid wearing tight clothing such as tight jeans, nylon panties, pantyhose, or clothing made of synthetic materials such as polyester. A tight, moist environment encourages the growth of yeast.

3.Wear cotton underwear and pantyhose with a cotton crotch.

4.Remove your wet bathing suit as soon as possible after swimming.

5.Wipe yourself after urinating or a bowel movement from front to back. This helps to avoid possible transfer of yeast from the rectum to the vagina.

8.Avoid use of feminine hygiene products such as feminine sprays and bubble baths. These products can be irritating to the vagina.

9.Avoid use of scented, deodorant or colored toilet paper, tampons, pads, or pantyliners. These products can be irritating to the vagina.

10.Use unscented pads and tampons during your menstrual period.

11.Use unscented and white toilet paper.

Can a man be a carrier for a yeast infection?

November 25, 2010 by
Filed under Yeast infections in men

Before I started dating my boyfriend, I’d never had a yeast infection. Since we’ve been together (about a year), I’ve had four or five cases of yeast infection. He’s also said that in the past, his girlfriends have told him similar things, that they didn’t have problems with yeast infections before they were with him.

He takes showers every day and generally keeps pretty clean. No, he doesn’t cheat on me, so he’s not getting it from another woman.

Go Here To Learn More About Candidiasis/Yeast Infection

So can a man be the cause for a yeast infection in a woman?

Most definitely. If he was intimate with another woman before you who had the yeast infection, then he can pass it on to you. If he continues to give it to you, he should be checked himself. It doesn’t matter how much he showers, if that fungus is present in him, he will pass it on to you.

If you take an antibiotic, make sure you finish all of it. That’s so important. Too many ppl don’t finish them when they start to feel better than wonder why an infection has returned. When you finish, it means the bacteria, fungus is gone. That’s why Dr’s will specify a certain amount of days because it means it takes that many days to kill off the infection no matter what it is. Good luck

What is causing and how can I stop chronic yeast infections?

November 25, 2010 by

I’ve always been easily succeptable to yeast infections, so I am very careful about keeping myself dry, no soaking in baths, and I always take my wet swimsuit off right away. Last summer I was taking anti-biotics for an infection I had, and it came in full force.

Go Here To Learn More About Candidiasis/Yeast Infection

Since then, almost every time I have sex, I get a yeast infection. I’ve heard that sugar levels can effect it, is that true? Because I had a gastric bypass last March, and since then I get frequent dizzy spells and the doctor thinks there may be something off in my sugar levels. Is there any way I can prevent these yeast infections?

If you don’t eat active culture yogurt, you should try some. Take at least 2 tablespoons a day. You probably need to replenish the good bacteria in your system. Some people even advocate using it vaginally with an applicator or as a douche. Kind of messy, but would probably work. Also be very careful not to contaminate the vaginal area when cleansing after a bowel movement.

If the recurrance is associated with sex, your partner may be passing it back to you. Men don’t have the symptoms women do, so wouldn’t notice much of anything. Going to the bathroom after sex and urinate and cleanse yourself, might help. If none of this works, you probably should see a doctor to be sure it is truly a yeast infection.

Toddler with Chronic Yeast Infections?

November 24, 2010 by

My 14 month old son is constantly getting yeast infections. He’s had a least 5 of them in the last 6 months. I’ve tried everything I can think of and they just keep coming back. I usually fight them with prescription creams and he gets better after about 7 days. Then a week later its back again. I change him every 2-3 hours and immediately whenever he has a dirty diaper.

Go Here To Learn More About Candidiasis/Yeast Infection

Nystatin didn’t work at all for him. My doctor also prescribed Vusion ointment which worked great the first couple of times but it seems to work less the more I use it. Last time I used it, it took 14 days for the infection to completley subside. I’ve also tried baking soda baths, leaving him out of diapers when possible (although now that he’s walking that’s really not practical at all unless I want to throw out all my carpets), vaseline, boudreaux’s butt cream…nothing seems to help. He’s not too fond of yogurt but has a very health diet otherwise. Any advice would be helpful!

Have you tried cutting out all perfumed or scented products – including your laundry soap and dryer sheets?? Something could be irritating his skin, and then leading to a yeast infection if the skin gets rashy and raw. I’m sure you have tried switching diapers already.

You may need to change him even more frequently. It might help to buy the store brand pull-ups with the little pictures on them that fade – and let him run around in them without pants at home, so you can see immediately when he is wet.

Go Here To Learn More About Candidiasis/Yeast Infection

Also – have you had his urine and blood tested? Sugar feeds yeast. Sugar in the urine could contribute to yeast infections. It’s something I would have done to be on the safe side – just to rule it out.

If he consumes large amounts of juice or sugary foods (healthy like fruits, or otherwise) – try cutting this down as well, because this can increase sugar in otherwise normal urine.

You may also want to try looking up more homepathic, natural methods. You will find lots if you look up your typical female yeast infection, most of the things could be adapted to use topically on the skin.

Overweight and chronic yeast infections?

November 23, 2010 by

I am trying to figure out WHY I have been having so many yeast infections. It is either yeast or bacterial vaginosis (its seems like they ping pong off of eachother.) I have gained 30 lbs in the last 1 year 1/2, but have recently lost 12 of those lbs. Wwhhoooo!!!! Anyways, I weight 157 :( but when I was thinner 140 hardly ever had this problem. Please help. I am treating an infection as we speak.

Go Here To Learn More About Candidiasis/Yeast Infection

PS. I dont eat carbs ( I do low carb diet) and dont have the symptoms of diabetes. I am 26 Over the summer I threw away all my thongs and got all cotton, and STILL get the infections. :(

if you have yeast infection then you must get rid of it as soon as it is possible!!!

if you really want to get rid of yeast infection then you must follow these tips:

Go Here To Learn More About Candidiasis/Yeast Infection

1) Eat yogurt!!!! It contains helpful bacteria (live cultures, including acidophilus and bifidus) that destroy yeast. Use only plain yogurt with active cultures.

2) Douche with a solution of 1 to 3 tbsp. vinegar in a quart of water. Repeat once a day while having symptoms, but no longer than a week.

3) Decrease or eliminate sugar and sugary foods. Sugar promotes yeast growth.

4) Use a garlic clove as a suppository. Garlic contains a natural anti-fungal agent.

5) Try gentian violet. It’s a traditional remedy for yeast and other infections, and can be found in pharmacies. Swab the area with it once or twice a day. Make sure to use a thick pad – it stains everything.

6) Use an herbal douche. Combine equal amounts of sage, raspberry and comfrey with 1/4 part goldenseal. This can be combined with cider vinegar.

7) You must use herbal treatment. In that case Yeastrol is really good (probably the best) product that gets rid of yeast infection comparatively fast and makes you feel more confident knowing that it wont reappear again!

And of course it is better if you use full course (5 months – if I remember correctly). For me it worked very fast + I dont get yeast infections anymore…

More misinformation about yeast infections and candida albicans than almost any health topic. Yeast diets, candida diets, along with special herbal formulas for combating yeast and candida infections abound.

Yet after 30 years in the nutrition field, we have found very few of these to be effective. Research shows that women, following yeast diets and candida diets, obtain some relief from their symptoms, yet as soon as they go off the restricted diet, their yeast infection and candida symptoms return almost immediately. The only substance ever shown to actually destroy the candida and yeast organism on contact is oxygen. Oral oxygen has proven to be very effective in eliminating yeast infections and candida.

Buffered oral oxygen is the only safe way to raise the oxygen levels, but you must take the right formula in order for it to be safe and effective. The Institute of Nutritional Science offers a formulation, which has been used for over 20 years in eliminating systemic candida and yeast without the use of dangerous drugs and ineffective diets.
