What is yeast infection, what are the symptoms, and what causes it?
Thanks

Yeast infections are a health condition that is broadly identified as candidiasis. Essentially, a yeast infection is a form of fungus that has developed and is present somewhere along the outer layer of the skin, or in a membrane area of the body. While many people tend to associate this type of infection with women only, the fact is that a man may also contract this type of fungus as well.

One thing to understand is that many people of both genders do have some amount of candida yeast present in the system at any given time. In situations where the individual is healthy, the human immune system and the ingestion of various forms of healthy bacteria from the daily diet help to keep the yeast from spreading into an infectious condition. It is when there is some compromise in the health of the body that the infection can begin to form and in turn cause problems for the individual.

what usually leads to a yeast infection is if you wipe the wrong way. if you wipe from your butt forward then all the germs go into your vagina and cause an infection. easily treatable!

Vaginal yeast infection, or vulvovaginal candidiasis, is a common cause of vaginal irritation. This common fungal infection occurs when there is an imbalance of the fungus called Candida albicans. Although this infection is not considered an STD (sexually transmitted disease), 12 percent to 15 percent of men develop symptoms after sexual contact with an infected partner.

Yeasts are always present in the vagina in small numbers, and symptoms only appear with overgrowth.

Several factors are associated with an increased risk of yeast infection in women, including:
    Being pregnant
    Having uncontrolled diabetes mellitus
    Using oral contraceptives or antibiotics.
    Douchings
    Using perfumed feminine hygiene sprays
Using topical antibiotics and steroid medicines.
Wearing tight, poorly ventilated clothing and underwear also can contribute to yeast infections.

Women with recurring infections should work with their healthcare providers to discover possible underlying causes of their chronic yeast infections. Health experts do not know whether yeast can be transmitted sexually.
